Cornelius Thomas Estep and Ona Frances (Turner) Estep - ca 1900

     Cornelius Thomas Estep enlisted in the services of the Confederate States on March 12, 1863 (for three years of war). He was a Private in Company G, 19 Virginia Cavalry, Captain Henry D. Ruffner’s Company of Cavalry, which was composed principally of former members of the 3rd Regiment Virginia State Line. (Commanded by Colonel William L. Jackson, who was later promoted to General.)

     He served in: 1. Jenkins’ Cavalry Brigade, Department of Western Virginia (April‑May, 1863) and 2. Jackson’s‑Davidson‑Jackson’s Brigade, Ransom’s‑Lomax’s Cavalry Division, Valley District,Department of Northern Virginia (June 1864 ‑ April 1865)

     Battles: Jones’ and Imboden’s West Virginia Raid (April 20‑May 21, 1863);Expedition to Beverly, West Virginia (June 29‑July 4, 1863);Droop Mountain (November 6, 1863); Marling’s Bottom, West Virginia (April 19, 1864); Lynchburg Campaign (June, 1864); Monocacy (July 9, 1864);3rd Winchester (September 19, 1864); Fisher’s Hill (September 22, 1864); and Cedar Creek (October 19, 1864)
